Crops in Botswana grow gradually due to dryness and cold-weather, and this is a barrier to the achievement of a low carbon society based upon bioenergy. However, the nation has an abundance of wild plants that can withstand dryness and winter season cold. It also has large numbers of Jatropha trees, whose seeds have abundant amounts of an oil considered to hold excellent guarantee as a biofuel. The objective of this job is to make use of these resources to establish Jatropha varieties that are resistant to and winter and deal high productivity, along with to establish methods of cultivating these varieties. In this method, a biological method will help to achieve a low carbon society.
Creating a bioenergy production design based upon the nation's own biological resources
A database of biological resource data relating to Jatropha will be built and suitable ranges will be developed. Moreover, in this desert that is subject to winter, efforts will be made to establish a growing system that is versatile with regard to environment modification. The task will work to construct a sustainable bioenergy production model using plant hereditary resources that are indigenous to Botswana.
